Drake Hogestyn, known for his role as John Black on "Days of Our Lives," has passed away just one day shy of his 71st birthday. The announcement was made via the show's social media account on Saturday night.
"It's with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Drake Hogestyn," the statement read. "He was thrown the curve ball of his life when diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, but he faced the challenge with incredible strength and determination. After putting up an unbelievable fight, he passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones."Hogestyn, who first appeared on the soap in January 1986, portrayed the character of Black—a spy, mercenary, and art smuggler—until 2009 and then returned from 2011 until this year. In mid-June, his character embarked on a journey to Greece to make amends for past misdeeds as The Pawn.
Remembered as "the most amazing husband, father, papa, and actor," Hogestyn's partnership with Deidre Hall's Marlena Evans made them one of daytime TV's most iconic couples.
