Former Formula One driver Ralf Schumacher shared a heartfelt message on social media, coming out as gay.
The 49-year-old, a grand prix winner from a renowned racing family that includes his older brother Michael Schumacher and stepbrother Sebastian Stahl, revealed his relationship on Instagram on July 14.
In his post, Schumacher shared a photo of himself with his partner, Etienne, as they embraced while watching the sunset over the ocean. He captioned the image, translated from German to English, "The most beautiful thing in life is when you have the right partner by your side with whom you can share everything."
The announcement drew widespread support from friends and family, including his son, racer David Schumacher, 22. In a touching comment, David expressed his happiness for his father: "I am very happy that you have finally found someone with whom you truly feel comfortable and secure. No matter if you are a man or a woman, I am 100% behind you, Dad, and wish you all the best and congratulations."
According to CNN, Ralf Schumacher was previously married to David's mother, Cora Brinkmann.
